This site is designed as a portal into the wondrous world of Swedish art songs. Although it represents only a portion of the current repertoire, www.SwedishSong.com will constantly expand through additions to both the repertoire lists and supporting materials.
The idea to create a database of not only songs, but also supporting materials such as poetic texts, translations and pronunciation tools, has been several years in the making. On March 13, 2004, an Art Song Marathon in Stockholm was a personal introduction to names such as Gösta Nystroem, Ture Rangström and Daniel Börtz, among countless others. Staggering was the realization that such exquisite song repertoire had been hidden in the Swedish ice and golden summer light! The purpose of www.SwedishSong.com is to provide performers worldwide with all the necessary tools and resources to incorporate this glorious repertoire into recital programs.
The creation of this site has depended on an invaluable network of collaborators who have offered tireless support and guidance. I am deeply grateful to: Tina Sjögren and Anders Annerholm at Gehrmans Musikförlag, Odd Sneeggen and Gustaf Bergel at Svensk Musik; also the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation, and the Axelsson Johnson Foundation, translator Eva Engman and site designer Jenny Kampmeier.
Moreover, this project would never have seen the light of day without the unflagging inspiration, support and collaboration of the HageGården Foundation and Håkan Hagegård.
